TRAVERSE CITY — After years of live music echoing through its downtown walls, Union Street Station will close its doors — but not before one final, marathon sendoff.
Local musicians are organizing a 12-hour farewell concert to celebrate the venue’s legacy and support the staff and artists affected by its closure. The all-day event will feature a rotating lineup of performers, many of whom have played the stage countless times over the years and are volunteering their time for the final show.
Organizers say the goal is both celebration and solidarity.
“Union Street Station has been more than a venue — it’s been a home base for so many musicians,” said one participating performer. “We wanted to give it the kind of goodbye it deserves and make sure the staff feels the love, too.”
The concert will span a dozen hours, showcasing a wide range of local talent, from solo acoustic acts to full bands. Several artists who got their start at Union Street Station are expected to return for the farewell performance.
For many in Traverse City’s music scene, the closure marks the end of an era. The venue has long served as a launching pad for emerging artists and a dependable stage for touring acts passing through Northern Michigan. It also provided steady work for bartenders, sound engineers, and support staff who helped build its reputation as a welcoming, grassroots music hub.
Organizers say proceeds from the event — including donations and merchandise sales — will go toward supporting staff members and musicians impacted by the shutdown.
Community members are encouraged to attend not only to hear live music, but to celebrate the venue’s role in shaping downtown Traverse City’s nightlife.
“This is about honoring the memories,” another musician said. “All the packed dance floors, the late-night encores, the friendships formed backstage. We want one last day where the music doesn’t stop.”
Details on the full lineup and performance schedule are expected to be released soon.
