TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — A 26-year-old White Cloud man is set to appear in 86th District Court on January 8, 2026, for arraignment on a string of charges following a December incident in Traverse City.
Jacob Miller faces multiple counts, including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon by a felon, operating while intoxicated (OWI), assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a police officer, and a felony firearm offense.
Incident Details
According to a Michigan State Police news release, troopers from the MSP Traverse City post were returning to their station in mid-December when they spotted a vehicle that had crashed into a snowbank on Boardman Avenue near State Street.
Troopers found the vehicle running and the driver asleep and initially unresponsive. After entering the vehicle, they discovered a handgun in Miller’s pocket — a significant concern because Miller is accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
When troopers attempted to wake Miller, he “allegedly became assaultive toward law enforcement,” leading to his arrest and transport to the Grand Traverse County Jail.
Arraignment and Court Schedule
Miller was initially arraigned on December 19, 2025, where he was formally charged. A $25,000 cash or surety bond was set at that time. His next court appearance is scheduled for 11 a.m. on January 8, 2026, in Traverse City’s 86th District Court.
During the January hearing, prosecutors and defense attorneys are expected to outline their positions on the charges and discuss pre-trial matters, including potential motions and the scheduling of future court dates. Miller remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Law Enforcement Response
The Michigan State Police were assisted during the arrest by both the Traverse City Police Department and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.
