Officer Involved Shooting

CADILLAC, Mich. — A Cadillac Police Department officer fatally shot a suspect during a traffic stop on Friday, January 2, 2026, after the driver allegedly produced a firearm and pointed it at the officer, authorities said.

According to initial reports from local law enforcement, Wexford Central Dispatch issued a be-on-the-lookout alert around mid-afternoon for a suspect and vehicle believed to be involved in a Wexford County armed robbery and home invasion earlier that day. Officers with the Cadillac Police Department located a vehicle matching the description near the intersection of Granite Street and Laurel Street in Cadillac at approximately 3:12–4:25 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop.

During the stop, police say the driver, a 57-year-old male, produced a handgun and pointed it at the responding officer, prompting the officer to fire their weapon in self-defense. The suspect was transported to Munson Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

A female passenger in the vehicle was taken into custody at the scene and is being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation, which has been turned over to the Michigan State Police, as per standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The Cadillac Police Department confirmed there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public following the incident. The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the state-led investigation.

Officials say they will release additional details once the investigation is complete.
